A member posted that he was hooking something up and his helper accidently touched a neg cable (direct short) to the under hood POS jumper point, blowing the 350amp fusible link. He stated the vehicle was completely dead and wouldn't respond at all. The link is located under the red cover next to the 12v battery. I helped him with a work around as you have to purchase a non-available wire harness costing $2300.00 and it got me to thinking, what if the battery cable got damaged out on the trail and shorted to ground and blew the 350a link.
One could probably Jimmy rig the cable with a temp repair but what's the work around for the blown link:
Solution 1 - The other unused stud (next to the 350a) is connected to a 200a fusible link and probably would work to get home.
Solution 2 - Physically bonding the remains of the link together, but then you'd open yourself up to a melt down if your Jimmy rig failed as the protection would be bypassed etc.......
Solution 3 - I purchased a 350amp fusible link off Amazon, modified the "Bolt" connection into a crimp connector by forming it around a #10 bolt, then crimping it to a 4" piece of 10g wire and applied some "heat shrink". I crimped ring terminals to the other end of the pig tails. I now have a solution for a problem that I hope never manifests it's self. (there are holders for these types of fuses but I opted for the smallest pkg possible)
